READING, Pa. — Albright put together its best 40 minutes of the season for a 94-71 win over NJCU in the championship game of the Sheraton New Year's Tournament Saturday afternoon in the Bollman Center. Tournament MVP Greg Conroy led Albright with 14 points off the bench for the Lions, who improve to 5-7 with their second win over the Knights in eight days. NJCU falls to 6-7 with the loss.

Although Albright never trailed in the game, the opening minutes were very tightly contested. A pair of free throws from Conroy gave Albright a 19-16 lead with 13:23 remaining in the half, but the Knights responded with a three-point play by Alex Mirabel to knot the score at 19. The Lions led 24-21 with 10:39 on the clock when Alex Schneider scored in the paint to ignite a 16-0 Albright run. Matt Kieselowsky's second triple of the spurt gave the Lions a 40-21 advantage with 5:51 remaining until the break. The Lions pushed the lead to 24 on an Andre Murphy three-ball with less than two minutes in the half, and after a couple of empty possessions from each team, took a 58-32 lead to the locker room when Murphy knocked down a jumper just before the halftime buzzer. Albright shot 61% from the floor in the half (19-31) and also made 15 of 17 attempts from the free throw line.

Albright never allowed the Knights to get close in the second half. The Lions led by as many as 31 and never led by less than 21 as everyone saw playing time in the final stanza. Conroy led five Lions in double figures with his 14 points, followed by Kyle Brudvig with 13, Albert Medoro with 11, and Mike Boles and Tom Murphy with 10 points each. Brudvig led Albright with eight rebounds, while Kieselowsky and CJ Jewell each handed out four assists. For the Knights, Dana John finished with 14 points, while Mirabel, Marquess Hill, and Shy Martinez each added 10. Mirabel had 8 rebounds in the game, and Hill finished with four assists. Tom Murphy and Kieselowsky were named to the All-Tournament Team from Albright, while Mirabel and Hill were honored from NJCU. Ricky Varnell from Lycoming was the other All-Tournament honoree.
