The Bombers were lead by sophomores Sean Burton (Notre Dame/Utica) and Jeff Bostic (Geneva/Geneva), who each registered 12 points. Burton, a guard, made a game-high five assist. Bostic, a forward, pulled down a team-high seven rebounds along with sophomore guard Sean Leahy (West Genesee/Syracuse). With Leahy’s 10 points he has now scored 10 or more points in every game he has played. Sophomore guard Brian Joe (Southside/Elmira) scored 11 points and had six rebounds. Senior forward Sean Stahn (Ardsley/Scarsdale) registered 10 points.
The lead only changed hands once in the game. Cortland had the advantage for the first 4:11 until senior guard Brad Clemente (Immaculata/Warren, N.J.) made a free throw giving the Bombers a 10-9 lead. Ithaca shot 76.9% from the line, while Cortland shot 47.4%. The Bombers started to pull away at 8:31 with a 25-17 advantage. Cortland fought back to within one (33-32) at the half.
The second quarter was similar to the first with Ithaca jumping out with the lead and Cortland trying to catch up. A Leahy free throw at 5:32 remaining gave the Bombers their biggest lead of the game 56-46. A Burton free throw with 0:03 remaining sealed the Bombers’ victory.
Cortland was lead by Rod Headley (Peekskill/Peekskill) and Dave Maggiacomo (Pleasant Valley/Arlington), who each had a game-high 14 points. Headly lead the team with seven rebounds. Carson Neihoff (West Islip/West Islip) scored 10 points.
The Bombers travel to St. Lawrence Friday for an 8 p.m. tip-off.
