LaBoard finished with 28 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals and Reaves recorded 25 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and three steals for the Wildcats (4-1, 1-0 SUNYAC). Senior Elvis Belone added 17 points, senior Pat Whalen scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds and senior Antoine Gilkes scored nine points and pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Cortland (2-2, 0-2) was led by senior Dave Jutton's 20 points, which included four three-pointers. He scored 16 points after halftime. Senior Dave Maggiacomo finished with 16 points, junior Michael Jankiewicz added 13 points and six rebounds and sophomore Juan Miolan tallied 12 points. Junior Derrick Fish handed out four assists, with Jutton, Jankiewicz and Miolan finishing with three each.
The Red Dragons shot 50 percent from the floor in the first half, including 6-of-10 from behind the arc, and led 49-33 at intermission. SUNYIT got back to within five points less than five minutes into the second half, however, and eventually tied the game at 73-73 with 5:41 left on a LaBoard layup.
Cortland re-opened a seven-point lead at 81-74 with 3:44 left behind two Jutton three-pointers and a Rod Headley jumper. SUNYIT scored the final seven points of regulation - four by Reaves and three by Gilkes, who made one free throw with 53 seconds left to knot the score. Cortland missed two shots on its next possession, and a Reaves jumper was off the mark in the closing seconds.
In overtime, a Gilkes layup with 45 seconds expired gave SUNYIT its first lead since the 10:28 mark of the first half. Cortland regained an 84-83 lead on a Maggiacomo three-pointer with 2:35 left, but Belone countered with a jumper at the 2:21 mark to give the Wildcats the lead for good.
Cortland missed a potential tying three-pointer with 22 seconds left. After stealing the ball back, Cortland turned the ball over back to SUNYIT with 13 seconds remaining and Whalen hit two free throws with 11 ticks left to help seal the win. The Wildcats made 8-of-10 free throws in overtime.
