Saratoga Springs, NY — Sophomore guard Maurice Torres (Summit, NJ/Summit) scored 18 point and led five players in double figures as the Montclair State men's basketball team moved into the championship game of the Skidmore Invitational with a 79-69 win over Williams (MA) on Friday evening.

Junior forward Jonathan Arthur (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) recorded his second straight double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds as the Red Hawks improved to 2-3 on the season.

MSU will face St. Joseph's (VT) in the championship game on Saturday, December 2 at 3:30 pm. St. Joseph's edged host Skidmore, 91-87 in overtime in the other game on Friday.

Montclair State played ahead for most of the game, but the Ephs took the lead with 4:14 left as William Hardy buried a three-pointer to give Williams a 58-56 lead. But the Red Hawks responded with a 12-0 run over the next two minutes to take control.

Freshman Charles Miller (Linden, NJ/Linden) ignited the run with a three-point play to give Montclair the lead and a layup by Arthur made the score 61-58 with 3:31 to play. Torres then drained a three inside the three-minute mark and then hit two free throws to give the Red Hawks a 66-58 advantage with 2:37 to go before Arthur wrapped up the spurt with a layup with 2:16 left.

Montclair State then closed out the game by hitting 11-of-12 from the charity stripe. MSU was 19-of-27 from the line in the game after entering the contest shooting just 38-of-75 (.507) in the first four games.

Torres led the way the free-throw line going 9-of-10 and added three rebounds in 16 minutes of action. Sophomore Garan Dickson (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) had 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists while Ken Dudley (Willingboro, NJ/Burlington Tech) had 11 points and six rebounds. Senior Eric Sylvester (Orange, NJ/Orange) was the fifth player in double figures for Montclair with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Chris Rose had a game-high 23 points for Williams, which got 11 points and 10 rebounds from Joe Geoghegan. The Ephs shot just 36 percent (25-of-69) from the field, including 8-of32 from three-point range.

Montclair State held a 47-43 advantage on the boards, including 17 offensive caroms. The Red Hawks also committed just nine turnovers.
