Sophomore guard Garan Dickson (Maplewood, NJ/Columbia) had 11 points for the Red Hawks, who scored the first 17 points of the game and never looked back in improving to 1-2.
Phillipe Leger had 11 points for the Bulldogs, who fell to 0-8 on the season.
Dickson began the game-opening run for Montclair State with a jumper 39 seconds in to the contest and he added a free throw before freshman Charles Miller (Linden, NJ/Linden) and Torres followed with baskets for a 7-0 lead. Torres hit one free throw and Arthur score consecutive plays, including a steal and dunk as Montclair took a 12-0 advantage. Freshman Ken Dudley (Willingboro, NJ/Burlington Tech) converted a three-point play and Dickson capped the run as he stole a pass at mid-court and raced ahead for a dunk with 14:23 left in the first half.
A three-pointer by Torres put Montclair State up 26-6 with 9:30 left in the opening stanza and the Red Hawks took their largest lead of the half with 43 ticks to go as Miller converted the three-point play to make the score 49-14. Dyquain Walker scored the final points of the half for Berkeley as the Bulldogs trailed 49-16 at intermission.
Miller, Arthur and Dickson each had nine points in the first half as the Red Hawks shot 54 percent from the field (20-of-37) compared to just 28 percent by Berkeley (5-of-18).
Miller finished with nine points as did Dudley as Montclair State saw put 13 different players in the scoring column. Freshmen John Byrne (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) and Donald Reid (Perth Amboy, NJ/Cardinal McCarey) each had eight points with Reid handing out five assists and collecting two steals. Arthur and sophomore Enrico Younger (Jackson, NJ/Jackson) each grabbed five rebounds as MSU outrebounded the Bulldogs, 42-37.
Montclair State finished the game 38-of-73 from the floor (52 percent).
Walker had eight points for Berkeley while Jimmy Tutovic and Jahlil Shannon each posted identical seven-point, five-rebound stat lines.
Montclair State returns to action on Wednesday, November 29 as they travel to Staten Island, NY to face the Dolphins of College of Staten Island at 7:30 pm.
