The score was deadlocked for the final time at 38-38 with eight minutes to play, but a later 9-2 Osprey run gave Stockton a 52-43 advantage with 1:32 remaining. The Ospreys then made 10 of 12 free throws down the stretch to ice their seventh-straight victory.
Freshman Elisa Brown (Norwalk, Conn./Norwalk) led the Pioneers with 15 points. Senior Melissa Moore (East Orange, N.J./North Bergen) added 10 tallies, and classmate Meghan Ludgate (Palermo, N.J./Ocean City) added six points and a team-high 11 rebounds.
With the result of the William Paterson-Richard Stockton game, and a Rutgers-Newark victory against Kean, those four teams are now tied for first place overall in the NJAC with identical 8-2 records.
William Paterson was ranked 22nd by USA Today/Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and 24th by d3hoops.com in this week’s national polls.
The Pioneers will host New Jersey City Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 6:00 p.m.
