The Bearcats (2-2) fell behind at halftime, 48-35, and in the second half saw Brevard (2-5) increase their lead to 18 points (61-43) with 13:29 left.
The Bearcats fought back valiantly to get as close as three points on a 3-pointer by freshman Arki Wisnu (New York, N.Y./Newtown) with 28 seconds remaining, but Brevard pulled away for the tournament victory.
Senior guard Carl Emengo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Canarsie) led the Bearcats with 19 points (10-12 FT), while sophomore forward George Kunkel (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) recorded his fourth consecutive double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Kunkel also earned All-Tournament honors.
Jonathan Whitson (Clyde, North Carolina) led Brevard with 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Embry-Riddle, the #5 ranked team in Division II, won the tournament championship with a 77-68 victory over Methodist (N.C.).
The Bearcats return to action this Tuesday to start their conference schedule with a 7:30 p.m. home game against John Jay.
