The game was close throughout most of the opening half, but the hosts overturned a 22-21 Baruch advantage with five minutes left to lead 31-25 at the half.
Senior Carl Emengo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Canarsie) scored a layup two minutes into the second half to get as close as three points (33-30), but the Bloodhounds (6-15, 5-4 CUNYAC) went on a 19-4 run for a 51-34 lead midway throughout the second half that put the game out of reach for Baruch (8-11, 6-3 CUNYAC).
The Bloodhounds finished shooting 48 percent (14-29) in the second half, including nailing five three-pointers and totaling 12 assists for 14 baskets.
Junior Phil Schatz (Middle Village, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) led the Bearcats with 12 points and eight rebounds.
Emengo and freshman Jeffrey Leider (Las Vegas, Nevada/Cheyenne) each scored seven points, while junior Laurence Smith (Harlem, N.Y./Frederick Douglass) grabbed seven rebounds.
Vaughn Mason (Bronx, N.Y./Alfred E. Smith) was the high scorer for John Jay with 19 points (five 3-pointers) and seven rebounds.
The men’s basketball team will host archrival Hunter College this upcoming Saturday at 3:30 pm.
NOTE: The men’s basketball alumni will play their annual game immediately following the conclusion of the women’s basketball game against Hunter.
