The game was tied at 14 with 7:58 left in the first half, but Baruch finished the half with a 21-8 run to build a 35-22 advantage at halftime.
They kept up the pressure in the second half by leading at one point by 24 points, and eventually finished with the 18-point victory.
Sophomore forward George Kunkel (Glendale, N.Y./Archbishop Molloy) led the Bearcats with 17 points and five rebounds, while senior guard Carl Emengo (Brooklyn, N.Y./Canarsie) scored 15 points, four assists, and three steals.
Junior forward Laurence Smith (Harlem, N.Y./Frederick Douglass) and junior forward Brian Forrestal (New York, N.Y./St. Agnes Boys) each contributed 10 points.
Baruch (2-0) shot 49.2 percent (31-63), while Polytechnic (1-3) struggled at 36.8 percent (21-57).
Freshman guard Jordan Mattfield (Grand Rapids, Michigan/Grand Rapids) led the Blue Jays with 23 points on 5-of-9 shooting from three-point range. Polytechnic finished with 10 total three-pointers.
The Bearcats will be in action this weekend in Daytona Beach, Florida, participating in the Daytona Mitsubishi Shootout. They will open tournament play on Friday at 6:00 p.m., against Methodist of North Carolina.
