GLASSBORO, N.J. — Elizabethtown College’s quest to become the first program in NCAA Division III women’s basketball history to reach the 900 all-time victory mark began in earnest Friday night with a 74-49 season opening win over Neumann College in the first round of the Rowan University Holiday Inn Runnemede Tip-Off Tournament. With the win, Elizabethtown (1-0) is now six wins away from 900, and the Blue Jays advance to face host Rowan in the tournament championship game at 7:00 p.m. Saturday.

Elizabethtown held a 53-32 advantage in rebounds over Neumann (0-1) over the entire game, and in the second half, Elizabethtown shot 50% (16-for-32) from the field against 29.4% (10-for-34) for Neumann. For the game, Elizabethtown shot 42.4% (28-for-66) from the field. Elizabethtown took the lead to stay just 15:45 into the first half, and by the time 10 minutes were left in the first half, the Blue Jays held a 20-8 lead. At halftime, the Blue Jays led Neumann 34-21.

Erin Walton (Columbus, NJ/Northern Burlington Co.) led Etown in scoring with 18 points, and she pulled down six rebounds and led the team in steals with three. Audrey Hitz (Lebanon, PA/Annville-Cleona) led Elizabethtown in rebounds with 12, and she scored eight points on 4-for-7 shooting from the field. Jenn Montague (Newark, DE/St. Mark’s) posted a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Montague also tied for the team lead in assists with four. Amanda Reid (Nazareth, PA/Nazareth) also had four assists, and she scored seven points and grabbed eight rebounds. Megan Quinn (Millersville, PA/Penn Manor) scored 15 points from off the bench for Etown. In her first game as a Blue Jay, point guard Megan Romano (Jenkintown, PA/Jenkintown) scored 12 points and had three assists.

Brettany Whetts led Neumann in scoring with 16 points and in rebounds with six. Syreeta Brown added 12 points for Neumann and led all players in the game in steals with five.
