READING, Pa. — Sophomore reserve Michelle Lutzkanin (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin) scored a game and career-high 20 points to lead Alvernia College to an 84-29 win over Cedar Crest Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania Athletic Conference women’s basketball action at the Physical Education Center.

Lutzkanin hit one 3-pointer in the first half and exploded for 17 points in the second half to eclipse her previous career-best by two points. Senior guard Lauren Fortna (Lebanon, PA/Lebanon Catholic) scored 14 for the Crusaders (11-6, 9-1 PAC) and sophomore Rachel Koerner (Belcamp, MD/Harford Tech) also reached double figures with 10. Cedar Crest (0-13, 0-10 PAC) got a team-high eight points from Kelly Oakes (Wimington, DE/Delcastle).

Alvernia jumped out to a 16-0 lead behind seven points from Fortna and six from Koerner. The Crusaders opened up the largest lead of the first half, 39-6 and held a 39-10 lead at the break. Alvernia hit 42 percent of its first half shots and held the Falcons to 5-for-27 from the floor, 19 percent, over the opening 20 minutes.

The second half lead hit 40 points, 54-14, just over three minutes after the break and grew to as many as 59 points with 1:30 to play.

Lutzkanin scored her previous career-high 18 at home versus Marywood last February.

Alvernia will travel to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Monday for a women’s and men’s doubleheader with the Griffins. The Griffins (16-2, 10-0 PAC) and the Crusaders will enter the game 1-2 in the PAC North Division.
