Roanoke 82, Bridgewater (Va.) 80

BROOKLYN, NY — St. Joseph’s College (Patchogue) used a 17-2 run at the start of the second half to turn a three-point intermission lead into a comfortable 18-point cushion that propelled them to victory over New York City College of Technology, 78-65. The victory improved the Golden Eagles to 3-2, while dropping the Yellow Jackets to 1-8 (0-1 CUNY).

After getting out to an early lead, the Yellow Jackets controlled the tempo throughout much of the first half. The City Tech swelled to seven points on a JAMAAL HALL (Banneker / Brooklyn, NY) three-pointer with 3:55 remaining. The Golden Eagles came back quickly, taking the lead on a lay-up by BRANDON FREEMAN(Freeport / Freeport, NY) less than two minutes later, giving them an advantage they would not relinquish.

The Yellow Jackets were led by Hall, who scored a team-high 23 points and dished out five assists while playing all 40 minutes. OTIS SAYLEE (Seward Park / NY, NY) added 16 points and a season-high 15 rebounds and ISSAKA YAYA (Lehman / Bronx, NY) had a double-double with 12 and 11, each contributed double-doubles in a losing cause.

Pacing the Golden Eagles was BRIAN FENTON (Island Trees / Levittown, NY), who scored a game high 26 points to go along with his team high 10 rebounds. Freeman chipped in 14 points off the bench, 12 coming in the second half.

The next game for the Yellow Jackets will be on Wednesday December 13 at Kean University. It will be the final contest of 2006 for City Tech, who will not play again until January 3 at CUNY Athletic Conference rival Brooklyn College. The Golden Eagles will host another CUNY foe, Lehman College on December 19th at 2:00 pm.
