Doyley converted seven of 10 field goal opportunities en route to a career-high 19 points and 11 rebounds, breaking his former career-highs of 10 points against Nazareth and nine boards set three times, both set last year. Cory Carson (Gansvoort, N.Y.) added 14 points, five rebounds, four assists, one block and two steals in the win. Albe Hulick (Greenville, N.Y.) and Kyle Phillips (Ashland, Mass.) each chipped in nine points. For Phillips, it was a career-best.
Trailing by one with just over 10 minutes into the contest, the Hawks, who upped their record to 5-2 overall, went on a 14-2 run to grab a 26-15 lead. Doyley and Carson combined for 11 points in that run. Hartwick cruised into intermission with a 40-29 advantage.
After Green Mountain netted the opening point of the second half, the Hawks delivered the knock out blow with an 10-0 run to build the lead to 50-30 with 13:42 remaining. The Eagles got no closer than 17 the rest of the way.
Hartwick connected on 29 of 52 (.558) field goal opportunities, including hitting 16 of 24 (.667) in the opening half. The Hawk defense held GMC to 18 of 54 (.333) shooting for the game.
The Eagles, who fell to 0-6 on the year, were paced by Abraham Saccoh’s 12-point performance, while Justin Lewandowski and Terrell Nicholson each chipped in six. Nicholson added eight rebounds to lead the Eagles.
Hartwick returns to action, Thursday evening, as it hosts Bard College. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at Binder Gym.
