HOBOKEN, N.J. — Junior forward Waleed Farid (Woodside, N.Y.) scored 28 points and pulled down eight rebounds as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team set a new school record for wins in a season with a 95-88 victory over SUNY College at Old Westbury on Saturday at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J. The Ducks, who have won eight straight and 14 of 15 games since opening the season at 3-3, improved to 17-4 on the year (10-2 Skyline Conference) with the victory.

Sophomore guard Anthony Passalacqua (Staten Island, N.Y.) knocked down seven of 13 shots and made six three-pointers in the game. He finished with 23 points and five assists. Sophomore guard Virgil Gray II (Elmwood Park, N.J.) added 20 points, four rebounds and four assists. Senior guard Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.J.) had seven assists to go along with five points and two steals. Farid shot 10-for-17 from the floor and drained three three-pointers for the Ducks, who strengthened their hold on first place in the conference with the win.

Old Westbury (12-8, 8-4 Skyline) was led by the sensational shooting of junior guard Kenny Eusey (Brooklyn, N.Y.), who had a game-high 30 points. Eusey made 10 of 16 shots in the game and was 6-for-10 from downtown. He added seven rebounds and four assists as the Panthers suffered their second straight loss. Sophomore forward Garthlette James (White Plains, N.Y.) had 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. Junior forward Divine Jackson (Hempstead, N.Y.) and junior guard Ian Johnson (Jamaica, N.Y.) chipped in with 14 and 11 points, respectively.

Stevens played a solid first half and led by as many as 15 points (33-18) at one juncture. The Ducks went into the locker room at the break holding a 40-31 advantage. Leading 46-39 with just over 16 minutes remaining, Stevens scored eight straight points in the span of 87 seconds to grab a 54-39 lead with 14:52 to play. Morris got things started with a jumper. Passalacqua followed with a three-pointer. Farid added a three-pointer of his own to cap the run.

The Panthers would not go away though as they closed to within six points at 79-73 on a three-pointer by Eusey with 3:34 left on the clock. The Ducks answered right back as Gray hit a driving shot. Farid stole the ensuing in-bounds pass and laid the ball in to push the lead to 83-73 with 3:18 to go.

Eusey hit two more three’s later in the game to keep Old Westbury close. His second three-pointer cut the Ducks’ lead to 92-86 with 29 seconds remaining. After Passalacqua made one of two free throws, Farid nailed a pair at the line with 15 seconds to go to ice the game.

Stevens shot 54.0 percent (34-for-63) from the floor and made 10 three-pointers in the game. During the second half, the Ducks made 18 of 28 field-goal attempts (64.3 percent). Old Westbury connected on 52.9 percent (36-for-68) of its shots in the contest.
