The Pointers jumped out to a 27-12 halftime lead, holding the Titans to three-for-20 field goal shooting in the first half. For the game, the Titans shot just 28.9 from the field and did not make a three-point field goal in just three attempts.
UW-Stevens Point, which is ranked 16th in the NCAA Division III and improved to 6-0 overall, struggled offensively itself to start the first half, trailing 6-5 with 12 minutes left in the first half. The Pointers took over from that point with a 15-2 run that lasted nearly eight minutes and was capped by a three-pointer by Laura Neuenfeldt. UW-Stevens Point held the Titans without a field goal for the final 8:16 of the half as the Titans missed all 10 attempts.
UW-Oshkosh, which fell to 3-3 overall, made two free throws following Neuenfeldt’s three-pointer, but the Pointers answered with a layup from Nathalie Lechault, a three-pointer from Neuenfeldt and another layup from Lechault for a 27-10 advantage.
The Pointers were cruising along in the second half and led 43-23 with under 10 minutes left before the Titans came to life. Jessica Abitz and Kayla Sharpee combined to score nine straight points and UW-Stevens Point had turnovers on five of its next six possessions as the Titans closed to within 11 points. The teams traded baskets on the next several possessions before the Pointers put the game away with a late six-point spurt.
UW-Stevens Point shot a season-low 43.6 percent and both teams not only struggled from the floor, but also the free throw line. UW-Oshkosh was just 15-for-29 for 51.7 percent and the Pointers were six-for-13 for 46.2 percent.
UW-Stevens Point has now won 12 of the last 17 meetings between the teams and extended its home winning streak to 17 straight games.
