WOOSTER, Ohio — The Allegheny College Gators ran into a buzz-saw on Wednesday night, falling 109-71 to the third ranked (d3hoops.com) College of Wooster Fighting Scots. Wooster hit a blistering 60.0 percent (42-of-69) of their shots for the game, and 14-of-24 from long range, 58.3 percent, in the 38-point loss for the Gators.

The Blue and Gold were led by Jimmy Savage (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), who scored nine points, while Trevor Coffey (Henrietta, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) added eight in the losing effort for Allegheny (8-11, 4-7 North Coast Athletic Conference).

Wooster (18-2, 11-0 NCAC) scored the first 14 points of the game and never looked back, starting the game with a 24-3 run over the first five minutes. The Scots hit their first nine points of the contest, with their first miss coming with 14:54 to play in the half. Leading by 20, the Scots struggled to increase their advantage, as the teams traded baskets to end the half with Wooster leading by 23 at 59-36.

The teams played even for the first seven minutes of the second half, with the Gators cutting the deficit by two to 21 at 71-50 before the host Scots erupted with a 23-7 run to push ahead by 37 points with just over six minutes left in the game before cruising to the 38-point loss for Allegheny.

Mike Sefscik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic) and Ryan Hollihan (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch) each added seven points for Allegheny. Savage, Ben Torsney (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown), Hollihan and George Raftis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy) each pulled down a team-best three rebounds, while Bill Babe (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) dished out a trio of assists.

Wooster was led by All-American candidate James Cooper, who scored 31 points, hitting 12-of-15 shots from the field and 7-of-9 from long range, while Tom Port and Brandon Johnson scored 15 and 14 points, respectively.

The Gators next take to the road for a game on Saturday, February 3 when the team travels to Delaware, Ohio to compete against the Battling Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University with tip-off set for 3:00 p.m.
