Larry Sharp (North Wales, Pa./Germantown Academy) and Ben Torsney (Morgantown, W.Va./Morgantown) each added eight points in the loss for Allegheny (8-12, 4-8 North Coast Athletic Conference), while George Raftis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Sewickley Academy), in his first collegiate start, pulled down a game-high-tying nine rebounds.
Ohio Wesleyan (14-7, 8-4 NCAC) jumped out to a 7-0 lead to start the game, before the Gators fought back, cutting the deficit to two with a 5-0 run. A 15-6 Battling Bishop run pushed the Gator deficit to 11, as the two teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the half, with the Gators using a late 5-0 run to close the gap to 10 at 40-30 heading into the locker room.
The Bishops, who hit 51.6 percent (33-of-64) of their shots for the game, pushed ahead with a 6-0 run to start the second half, and the Gators were never able to cut the deficit to single digits the rest of the way, as OWU cruised to the 29-point win.
Three players, Ryan Hollihan (Saxonburg, Pa./Knoch), Trevor Coffey (Henrietta, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) and Doug Price (East Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) each scored six points in the loss. Hollihan added five rebounds, while a quartet of players, Mike Sefscik (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Catholic), Jimmy Savage (North Canton, Ohio/Hoover), Price and Babe, each dished out two assists.
Ohio Wesleyan put four players in double figures, led by Brian Cafarella’s 20 points on 6-of-7 shooting from long range. Jesse Jean, starting for injured forward Ben Chojnacki, scored 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds, as Ted Uritus and Kyle Holliday each poured in 10 points.
The Gators looks to end their road woes on Wednesday, February 7, as the team travels to Oberlin, Ohio to face off against the Yeomen of Oberlin College at 7:30 p.m.
