THROGGS NECK, N.Y. — Sophomore guard Anthony Passalacqua (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored a career-high 22 points (20 of which came in the first half) on 8-for-15 shooting from the floor as the Stevens Institute of Technology men’s basketball team halted a brief two-game losing streak with an 89-61 win over Maritime College on Wednesday evening in Throggs Neck, N.Y. Passalacqua added five rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Ducks, who improved to 4-3 overall and 1-1 in the Skyline Conference with the victory.

Stevens also received a solid performance out of senior forward Michael Collins (Bronx, N.Y.), who made nine of 12 field goals en route to scoring 18 points in just 19 minutes of action. Junior guard Waleed Farid (Woodside, N.Y.) totaled 14 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Sophomore guard Damien Palantino (Philadelphia, Pa.) tallied 11 points in 15 minutes of action off the bench. He was 3-for-6 from downtown in the game. Senior guard Floyd Morris (East Windsor, N.J.) did a fine job orchestrating the Ducks’ offense once again. Morris finished with six points and six assists to go along with six rebounds and two steals.

Maritime (1-5, 0-2) was led by junior guard Justen Price (Yonkers, N.Y.), who had 18 points, six rebounds, three steals and three assists. Junior guard Lamar Fields (Bronx, N.Y.) added 13 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

Trailing 14-9 with less than 12 minutes to go in the first half, Stevens used a 20-2 run over the course of a six-minute stretch to grab a 29-16 advantage. Passalacqua started things with a three-pointer – one of five that he hit during the opening period. Palantino followed with a three-pointer of his own to give the Ducks a one-point lead (15-14). After four straight points by Farid, Palantino and Passalacqua drilled back-to-back three-pointers. Collins ended the run with a pair of baskets to put the Ducks up by 13 points with 6:12 remaining.

After the Privateers closed to within 31-23 on a jumper by Price with 4:21 to go in the period, Stevens scored 17 of the final 19 points of the half to take a 48-25 lead into the locker room. Passalacqua spearheaded the run with 11 points off a conventional three-point play, two three-pointers and a lay-up.

The Ducks shot 51.6 percent (33-for-64) from the floor in the game. Stevens made 17 of 31 (54.8 percent) field-goal attempts in the first half. The Ducks forced 29 turnovers by the Privateers and held Maritime to 39.3 percent (22 of 56) shooting overall.

Stevens will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Mount Saint Mary College at 7 p.m. That game can be seen live as a video webcast through www.duckcast.com.
