AU senior point guard Robby McCarter scored a game-high 26 points for the Saxons, who evened their record at 2-2 with the non-conference win. McCarter made eight of 11 shots from the floor, including four of six from three-point range, and went six of seven from the free throw line. He added five assists and three steals.
Allegheny (3-1) led at the half, 30-28, after making 43 percent of their shots from the floor, including 40 percent on three-point shots. AU went on a 24-12 run to open the second half and take a 52-42 lead with 7:23 left in the game and Allegheny would get no closer than 10 points the rest of the way.
Freshman guard Jared Patt scored a career-high 12 points for AU and senior center Dillon Stein added 12 points and four blocks. Freshman forward Pat Smithgall pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Saxons.
The visiting Gators were paced by forward Bill Babe with 15 points and center Ryan Hollihan with 12 points and seven rebounds.
