Late in the contest, Maslowski held the ball up high. She looked twice for someone to pass the ball to, shrugged, and drained the shot as the Blue Devils defeated UW-Superior, 79-51, to claim a share of the WIAC title, Stout's third consecutive title.
The Blue Devils (19-4, 12-2) shot out to a 37-23 halftime lead, then forced five Superior (7-15, 1-12) turnovers with full court pressure in the first five minutes of the second half to jump out to a 21 points lead and held a lead of no less than 15 points the rest of the game.
Stout 's pressure defense was a key as the Yellowjackets turned the ball over 30 times, at least five times on shot clock violations. Stout recorded 14 steals.
Kelsey Duoss led Stout with 15 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots. Savanah Oeltjen came off the bench to add 12 points, even though she had to leave for an extended period of time due to an injury. Amanda Geissler added nine points and had five assists. Stout was able to play all 20 of their players and 15 scored.
Superior's Katie Moench provided the bulk of the Yellowjackets' offense, dropping in 25 points, 15 in the second half.
Stout can take the title outright with a win in either of their next two games, or if UW-Whitewater or UW-Eau Claire suffers a loss. Stout will be at UW-Stevens Point, Saturday, Feb. 10 and will close out the regular season, Saturday, Feb. 17 by hosting UW-La Crosse.
