With the Falcons (8-7, 2-4) out to a 10-point, 53-43, lead with about five minutes remaining, Stout closed out the game on a 13-2 run. Freshman Kim Stokke scored five of her seven total points in the run, including a jumper with 2:23 left to pull Stout to within 53-52. Kelsey Duoss who finished with only six points and three rebounds, put Stout (13-3, 6-1) ahead for the first time since a 16-14 lead midway with seven minutes left in the first half.
But the Falcons' Traci Reimann, who finished the night with 22 points and 12 rebounds, gave River Falls the lead with 1:26 left on the clock.
Stout had three shots at the basket, missing all three, but did manage to pull down the rebounds and Dani Boese was fouled with 26 left. Boese drilled both free throws for what would prove to be the final score as the Falcons worked the ball for one last shot, a miss by Kim Sorenson at the buzzer.
Reiman nearly destroyed Stout underneath in the first half, collecting 10 points and nine rebounds as the Falcons took a 28-23 lead into the locker room. Reimann's screens on top also disrupted the Blue Devils defense. On the night, Stout's main post players accounted for 18 points and only eight rebounds, compared to Reimann's 22 and 12, respectively.
Stout was led by Savanah Oeltjen, who came off the bench to score 12 points and add four assists. Julia Hirssig came off the bench early and played late, scoring eight points.
Reimann provided the bulk of the Falcons' offense, but Melanie Preiner contributed 11 points.
