Platteville, Wis. — The Buena Vista University men\'s basketball team opened the regular season on Friday night with an 85-80 overtime victory against Ripon College at the Pioneer Tip-off Classic. The Beavers rallied from a 22-point second half deficit to force overtime and eventually defeat the Red Hawks.

Andre Wagner scored a team-high 20 points for Buena Vista and hit a game-tying three-point shot with 31 seconds remaining in regulation which forced overtime. Brian Fogleman scored six of his 16 points in overtime as the Beavers outscored the Red Hawks 14-9 in the extra frame.

Ripon, which had a 51-31 advantage at halftime, missed what would have been a game-winning shot at the end of regulation and what would have been a game-tying three-point shot with under five seconds left on the clock in overtime. The largest margin for the Red Hawks was a 42-19 lead with just over six minutes remaining in the first half.

Buena Vista shot 30 of 61 from the floor and was 18 of 32 after halftime. The Beavers missed only one field goal in overtime.

Bo Johnson scored a game-high 25 points for Ripon. The Red Hawks shot a blistering 20 of 35 from the field in the first half but only made nine field goals in the second 20 minutes.

Buena Vista will play the host school, the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, on Saturday.
