MEN'S BASKETBALL ... Warhawks Defeat UW-Stout
UW-Whitewater defeated UW-Stout 79-66 Saturday afternoon at the Kachel Gym in Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
UW-W led 37-32 at the half. Stout scored the first basket of the second half, but Whitewater outscored the Blue Devils 13-3 to take a 50-37 lead at 15:34. Whitewater maintained a double digit lead the rest of the way, reaching as many as 18 at 70-52 with 4:50 left in the game.
Senior center Andy Freund (Wauwatosa/West) led the Warhawks with 17 points and 7 rebounds. Senior guard Giovanni Riley (Milwaukee/Marshall) added 14 points and junior gaurd Jason Price (Milwaukee/Washington) 13 for UW-W. Freshman guard Jerrel Enerson-Matthews took game scoring honors with 26 points for the Blue Devils. Enerson-Matthews also contributed 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 blocked shots. Senior center Jacob Nonemacher chiped in with 14 points and 9 boards.
Whitewater enjoyed a large margin at the free throw line. The Warhwaks made 34-42 free throws, while Stout was 16-27. Both the attempts and free throws made are season highs for Whitewater.
Whitewater faces a string of five consecutive road games, beginning Wednesday at UW-Oshkosh. The Warhawks, 10-5 overall and 4-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, have their next home game scheduled for Saturday, February 3 at 1:00 with UW-Superior visiting Williams Center. The February 3 game is part of Whitewater's Sports Extravaganza Day, where fans can purchase one ticket and attend men's basketball, women's
basketball, men's tennis, women's and men's swimming, and wrestling events in the Williams Center complex for that one admission.
