UW-Whitewater men's basketball defeated Maranatha Baptist Bible College 92-27 Monday, January 8 at the Kachel Gym in Whitewater, Wisconsin.
UW-Whitewater held the Crusaders to just six points in the first half on 7.7% shooting, taking a 46-6 lead in to the locker room. The Warhawks defense held Maranatha scoreless from the 10:49 mark in the first half until George Tagli made a jumper for the Crusaders at the 18:46 mark in the second half. UW-W's largest lead was the final margin of 65 points.
Dustin Mitchell (Fr, Lac de Flambeau/Lakeland) led UW-Whitewater in scoring with 15 points while grabbing six rebounds. Kevin Koski (Fr, Jefferson) also scored in double digits with 10 points and 5 rebounds. George Tagli and Mike Knepp dropped in six points each for Marantha and Knepp grabbed a team high 8 rebounds.
UW-Whitewater set a school record by holding the Crusaders to just 27 points. The previous record was 35 points when the Warhawks defeated the California Institute of Technology on November 28, 2003. The winning margin of 65 points is the third largest margin of victory in school history. UW-W held Marantha to 20.4% shooting while the Warhawks shot 51.5%. The Warhawks committed 12 turnovers and Marantha had 29.
UW-Whitewater's victory improves their record to 9-4 overall and 3-2 in the WIAC while Maranatha Baptist Bible College falls to 3-7 overall and 0-5 in the Northern Athletic Conference.
The Warhawks next game is Wednesday, January 10 at home against UW-Platteville at 7:00pm in the Kachel Gymnasium.
