UMHB raced out to a 15-5 lead and led by as many as 15 points in the first half before a late Sul Ross State rally cut it to 40-29 at halftime. The Lobos only closed it to less than double digits once in the second half and the Cru never looked back in cruising to the win. UMHB shot just 36 per cent from the field in the first half and 29 per cent in the second half. The Cru out rebounded Sul Ross 48-35 and forced 19 turnovers in the win to overcome the poor shooting. UMHB also hit 27-33 from the free-throw line in the victory.
Kevin Guyden led UMHB with 24 points and he scored 19 of those in a dominating first half. Neiman Ford added 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Michael Ivey came off the bench to grab a career-high eight rebounds for the Cru and 12 of the 13 UMHB players scored two or more points. Filiberto Torres led the Lobos with 16 points and he also grabbed seven rebounds. Anthony Mata chipped in with 10 points for Sul Ross State.
The Cru will close out its regular season home schedule on Saturday against Howard Payne University. UMHB will take on the Yellow Jackets in a 3:00 PM tip-off. The Cru will then close out the regular season next weekend with road games at McMurry University and Hardin-Simmons University.
