Austin, Tx.; — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team almost let a huge lead slip away, but the Lady Cru bounced back for an 81-67 win over Concordia-Austin Tuesday night in Austin. The UMHB women win their seventh straight game to improve to 15-6 overall and 13-4 in American Southwest Conference play. The win also clinches an ASC Championship Tournament berth for the UMHB women. Concordia-Austin falls to 7-13 overall and 7-10 in the ASC with the loss.
The Lady Cru opened up a 20-point halftime lead at 41-21. UMHB stretched the lead to 24 in the second half before CUA started its comeback. The Tornados went on a 25-5 run to pull to within two points at 63-61 with 4:22 left to play. UMHB answered with an 18-4 run to close the game and put it out of reach. The Lady Cru shot 55 per cent from the field and held CUA to 37 per cent shooting.
Veronica Delgado came off the bench to lead UMHB with a career-high 16 points. Julie Amabile added 13 points and eight assists, TaeLee Cisneros added 13 points and Kellie Thomas had 10 points on 5-5 shooting for UMHB. Kassandra Bills topped the Tornados with 19 points and Lanean Harris added 17 points and 10 rebounds for CUA.
The UMHB women will now return home for a pair of ASC West Division games this week. The Lady Cru will host Sul Ross State University for a 5:30 PM start on Thursday night before closing out the regular season home schedule with a 1:00 PM tip-off against Howard Payne University on Saturday.
