MEN\'S BASKETBALL ... Warhawks Hold Off Marian
In a game that saw eight ties, and a game where neither team could build a double figure margin, UW-W held off Marian College 74-70 in Fond du Lac Wednesday evening.
UW-Whitewater men\'s basketball built a nine point lead, 33-24 and 35-26, late in the first half, only to see Marian close the half with an 8-0 run to cut the halftime to a 35-34 Whitewater lead. Marian eventually went up six, 47-41 at 12:32 in the second half, but five minutes later the Warhawks had taken the lead back, 54-53, and UW-W didn\'t trail the rest of the way. With the lead at 71-68 with 15 seconds left, UW-W\'s Rob Perry was fouled and made both free throws to ice the win.
UW-W forward Rob Perry (jr, Milwaukee/Dominican) had a game high 22 points. Senior guard Giovanni Riley (Milwaukee/Marshall) added 11, and senior forward Mike Toellner (Mayville) and sophomore forward Kori Vernon (Madison/Memorial) both contributed 10 points. Marian bunched four players in double figures, with sophomore guards Wayne Franklin and Justin Bestor scoring 12 apiece and freshman guard Jered Holewinski and senior forward Titus Redmond adding 10 each. Redmond also led Marian with seven rebounds. Whitewater enjoyed an advantage at the free throw line, hitting 29-38, while Marian was 9-14.
UW-W, 2-1, will host Beloit College Saturday, November 25 for a 7:00 tipoff in Kachel Gym of Williams Center on the UW-W campus. Marian College is 1-2.
