UMHB opened up a 14-point halftime lead at 43-29 and led by 17 points at 61-44 with 13:02 left in the game. Schreiner then fought back and cut the gap to 77-72 with 4:09 remaining. The Lady Cru answered with a 10-2 run to end the game and provide the final margin. UMHB shot 50 per cent from the field and out rebounded Schreiner 45-35. The Mountaineers hit 40 per cent from the field, but a 22-31 performance from the free-throw line kept them in the game.
Six UMHB players reached double figures in the win, led by Shannon Barnes and her 16 points. Christian Tomlinson added 14 points and four blocked shots, Kallie White had 13 points, Julie Amabile added 11 points and six assists, Jessica Kelly had 11 points off the bench and TaeLee Cisneros chipped in 10 points for UMHB. Amabile’s six assists move her to 309 for her career and she passed Tiffany Friesenhahn to take over fifth-place on the Lady Cru career list. Courtney Davis led Schreiner with 21 points and Monica Enriquez added 20 points and six assists for the Mountaineers.
The UMHB women will continue their home stand with two more home games next week. The Lady Cru will host Concordia-Austin for a 6:00 PM tip-off on Tuesday night before welcoming Texas Lutheran University to the Mayborn Campus Center for a 5:30 PM start on Thursday.
