The UMHB women led 35-30 at halftime and stretched the lead to as many as nine points before UTT made a second-half comeback. A 15-6 Lady Patriot run tied the game at 53 with 11:31 remaining. UMHB scored the next six points and seemed to take control, but UTT closed to within one point on three more occasions, the last at 65-64 with 3:04 left in the game. The Lady Crusaders then closed the game with an 8-1 run to ice the game and clinch the victory.
Christian Tomlinson led UMHB with her first double-double of the season at 14 points and 13 rebounds. Shannon Barnes added 14 points and seven boards, TaeLee Cisneros came off the bench to pour in 12 points and Jessica Kelly added 11 more for the UMHB women. Shamonica Shead was outstanding for UTT with 25 points on 11-14 shooting. LaKeisha Grant added 10 points off the bench. Sarah Stanley had 11 assists for the Patriots but she was just 1-14 shooting on the night.
The Lady Crusaders will host Menlo College for a 2:00 PM start at the Mayborn Campus Center on Sunday afternoon. The UMHB women will then return to ASC action with a 5:30 PM game against U.T.-Dallas on Tuesday night.
