Belton, TX.; — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team took control of the game early in the second half and the Lady Crusaders went on to a 67-53 victory over U.T.-Dallas Tuesday night in Belton. The UMHB women improve to 4-2 overall and 4-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops the Lady Comets to 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the ASC.
UMHB led by just three at 34-31 at halftime. The Lady Crusaders then scored 10 of the first 13 points in the second half to take a 44-34 lead. The Lady Comets cut it to single digits twice before UMHB stretched the lead to as many as 22 points before cruising to the victory. The Lady Crusaders shot 42 per cent in the second half and held UTD to 19 per cent shooting from the floor in the second half. UTD shot just 29 per cent for the game and UMHB out rebounded the Lady Comets 56-40.
Shannon Barnes led UMHB with 11 points and she added nine rebounds. TaeLee Cisneros added a double-double for the Lady Crusaders with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Christian Tomlinson added nine points and nine boards and Julie Amabile also scored nine points for the UMHB women. Eleven different players scored for the Lady Crusaders and all 17 players in uniform played. Chelsea Edwards topped UTD with 19 points and Ericka Baker chipped in with 13.
The UMHB women will now take 11 days off for finals. The Lady Crusaders return to action with a two-game ASC road trip on December 16th and 18th. UMHB will take on East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau University on that trip.
