Lake Erie 70, Medaille 65

Belton, Tx.; — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team overcame a sluggish start and dominated the second half and the Lady Cru cruised to a 77-50 victory over Texas Lutheran University Thursday night in Belton. The UMHB women win their fifth straight to improve to 13-6 overall and 11-4 in American Southwest Conference play. The loss drops the TLU women to 0-20 overall and 0-16 in the ASC.
The game was close for the first 12 minutes as UMHB led just 21-19 at the 8:14 mark. The Lady Cru closed the first half with a 17-9 run to take a 38-28 lead at the break. The UMHB defense then came up big in the second half, holding TLU to just two points in the first10:49 of the half and stretching the lead to 68-37 at one point. UMHB held the Lady Bulldogs to 37 per cent shooting, forced 19 turnovers and out rebounded TLU 55-34 in the win.
Kallie White led UMHB with 12 points and she also grabbed six rebounds in her first collegiate start. TaeLee Cisneros added 11 points for UMHB and 13 players scored for the Lady Cru. Mariah Smith topped TLU with 17 points, 11 of them from the free-throw line. Jessica Macias added 12 points for the Lady Bulldogs.
The UMHB women will now hit the road for a pair of ASC West Division games. The Lady Cru will travel to Kerrville on Saturday to take on Schreiner University in a 1:00 PM start. The UMHB women will head to Austin on Tuesday for a 6:00 PM tip-off at Concordia-Austin.
