Knox 82, MacMurray 78

Abilene, Tx.; — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women’s basketball team could not hold a 17-point second-half lead and the Lady Cru let McMurry University escape with a 68-60 overtime victory Thursday night in Abilene. The loss drops the UMHB women to 16-8 overall and 14-6 in American Southwest Conference play. McMurry, ranked ninth in the nation by D3hoops.com improves to 21-3 overall and 18-2 in the ASC with the victory.
The Lady Cru dominated the first half and led 28-19 at the break. UMHB then pushed the lead to 40-23 early in the second half before McMurry battled back to cut it to 51-49 with 6:44 to go. The Lady Cru stretched the lead back to five at 57-52 with 2:04 to play, but McMurry tied the game at 57 on a pair of Tarra Richardson free throws with 23 seconds left. UMHB had a chance at a final shot in regulation, but turned the ball over at the buzzer. McMurry then scored the first six points of overtime before Kellie Thomas drilled a three for the Lady Cru to cut it to 63-60 with 1:58 on the clock. UMHB would not score again as the McMurry women put the game away for the victory.
Christian Tomlinson and Kallie White led UMHB with 14 points and eight rebounds apiece. Julie Amabile had 11 points and six assists and moved into third place on the Lady Cru career assist list with 358. Richardson led McMurry with 24 points and 10 rebounds and Maigen Sawyer and Symbri Tuttle had 11 points apiece for McMurry.
The UMHB women will close out the regular season with a 1:00 PM tip-off across Abilene at Hardin-Simmons University on Saturday. The Lady Cru has already clinched a berth in the ASC Championship Tournament in Brownwood on February 23-25. The UMHB women are the #4 seed from the ASC West Division and will face East Texas Baptist University in the opening round of that tournament.
