UW-Whitewater never trailed, and built a double digit lead with eight minutes remaining in the first half, on the way to a 76-51 win over Beloit College in Kachel Gym in Williams Center in Whitewater, Wisconsin Saturday night.
Whitewater led 38-22 at the half and led by as many as 33, 76-43 with 2:00 left. UW-W shot 54% from the field, Beloit 39%, and Whitewater had a nine point bulge at the free throw line where the Warhawks went 11-18 and Beloit was 2-2. The Warhawks also out-rebounded the Bucanneers 40-20, with UW-W point guard Giovanni Riley leading both teams with seven.
Guard Rob Dixon (so, Milwaukee/King) led both teams with 17 points, his collegiate high. Also in double figures was senior forward Mike Toellner (Mayville). Riley added a game high eight assists, and shared game honors with three steals. Beloit was led by forward Nick Hendry (sr, Essex Junction, VT) with 12. Hendry also led BC with six rebounds and tied for the team lead with three steals.
UW-Whitewater, 3-1 overall, will open Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play Wednesday, November 29 at 7:00 with UW-La Crosse visiting Kachel Gym in Williams Center. Beloit College is 0-3.
