The Lady Crusaders struggled with turnovers in the first half and trailed by as many as 13 points before a late run cut the Trinity lead to 42-38 at the half. UMHB battled back in the second half before the Tigers stretched the lead back to 12 points at 64-52 with 11:10 left to play. UMHB went on a 16-4 run to tie the game at 68 with 6:43 remaining, but the Tigers took control of the game again and pushed the lead to 83-74 with 28 seconds remaining. UMHB closed the game with a 7-1 run but could not close the gap all the way.
Both teams shot 40 per cent from the field and Trinity won the rebounding battle 51-42. The Lady Crusaders also turned the ball over 28 times. Lindsey LeDee led the Lady Crusaders with 25 points and Julie Amabile added 14 points for the Cru. Carlee Culver came off the bench to lead Trinity with 28 points and 12 rebounds. Meghan Scholbe added 19 points and 10 boards for the Tigers.
The UMHB women will now hit the road to open American Southwest Conference play this season. The Lady Crusaders will take on Mississippi College Saturday afternoon in Clinton, Mississippi. The UMHB women will then travel to Pineville, Louisiana to take on Louisiana College on Monday night.
