Ryan Dupic and Rahn Franklin combined for 10 points, three assists, three steals in the final minute and a half of regulation as Buena Vista erased a 68-59 deficit. With Coe in front by one with 11.8 seconds remaining, Kale Petersen made one of two free throws to put the Kohawks in front 71-69. On the other end of the floor, Franklin cut through the lane and made a layup to knot the score. Coe had a look at a 25 footer from the left wing that missed the mark as time expired.
The two teams went back and forth for the first four minutes of overtime. With under a minute on the clock and Buena Vista in front 80-79, Jeff Bissen nailed a three-pointer from the right corner off of a pass from Dupic. Coe would not touch the ball trailing by fewer than four points the rest of the way as Buena Vista iced the game at the free throw line.
Dupic scored 18 of his career-high 26 points in the last nine minutes of the game, including nine in overtime. He also had a career-high four steals and four assists. Franklin registered a career-high 21 points and nine assists as the Beavers improved to 7-0 in overtime games this year.
Mike Kilburg scored a game-high 29 points to lead Coe but was limited to four points in the final nine minutes of the game. Kyle Kuenstling tallied 12 points, 10 rebounds, and six assists for the Kohawks who had a 13 point lead with under four minutes to go in regulation.
Buena Vista shot 52% from the floor while Coe connected on 48% of its shots. The Kohawks had a 42-29 rebounding advantage.
Buena Vista has now won 16 straight Iowa Conference Tournament games. The Beavers improved to 10-1 at home this season with the victory.
The Beavers are 17-8 on the year. The Kohawks fall to 19-8.
Buena Vista will travel to Loras College for the championship game on Saturday at 7 p.m. The regular season conference champion Duhawks won both meetings with the Beavers during the regular season. The winner will receive an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III National Tournament.
