The Cru led 47-41 at halftime and opened it up to an eight-point edge at 57-49 early in the second half. Schreiner stormed back to tie the game at 67-67 with 9:14 left to play. UMHB promptly exploded for a 25-4 run to push the lead to 92-71 with 4:10 remaining. The Cru then cleared the bench and a late Schreiner run cut it to the final margin of 11 points.
Kevin Guyden led UMHB with 26 points on 9-10 shooting from the field. Guyden hit his first seven shots and also added a game-high six assists for the Cru. Neiman Ford poured in a career-high 21 for UMHB and Connor Kuykendall came off the bench to hit 4-5 from three-point range for 12 points. Richard Moore and Kevin Deans topped the Mountaineers with 19 points apiece, Travis Clark had 13, Jonathan Young scored 12 before fouling out and Ronnie Barney had 10 points off the bench for Schreiner.
UMHB head coach Ken DeWeese won the 137th game of his UMHB head coaching career. He needs one more win to tie Richard Herbst for the most coaching victories in the history of Cru men’s basketball. Herbst won 138 games from 1990-1998.
The Cru will return to action with a road trip to Austin on Tuesday night. The UMHB men will face Concordia-Austin for a 7:30 PM tip-off.
