The Lady Cru opened the game with a 15-3 run before HPU fought back to take its first lead at 21-19 with 9:10 left in the first half. The Lady Jackets stretched the lead to as many as eight points, but UMHB cut it to four at halftime, 35-31. The two teams traded leads in the second half before the Lady Cru took a 51-50 lead with 11:17 left in the game. The Lady Jackets answered with a 20-5 run to take a 70-56 lead and UMHB could not come back from there.
Blair Heitmiller led the Lady Cru with 16 points and she hit 3-5 from three-point range. TaeLee Cisneros added 11 points for UMHB and Julie Amabile narrowly missed a double-double with 10 assists and nine points. Meia Daniels topped Howard Payne with 28 points and 11 rebounds and Kim Hoffman added 16 points and seven boards. The Lady Cru hit 7-13 from three-point range and held HPU to 2-12 shooting from beyond the arc. HPU did out rebound UMHB 40-29 and turned the ball over just eight times while forcing 19 Lady Cru giveaways.
The Lady Cru will wrap up its road trip with a 4:30 PM tip-off at Sul Ross State University Monday evening in Alpine. That game was originally scheduled for last Thursday, but was moved to Monday due to weather and travel concerns.
