ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — Thanks to some deadly shooting by junior guard Jordan Delp and a decisive rebound advantage, Augustana defeated Beloit 69-52 in non-conference men’s basketball action on Tuesday evening in the Carver PE Center. Delp scored a team high 20 points as he shot eight for 10 from the floor, including four of five from three point range, as the 24th ranked Vikings moved to 2-0 on the season.

Besides Delp, the only other Augustana player in double figures was senior forward Nate Swetalla with 12 points. The Vikings enjoyed a 36-26 edge in rebounding as junior center Dain Swetalla led the way with eight and senior forward Shaun Rose picked off six.

Augustana never trailed in the game, jumping off to a 13-2 lead before the game was five minutes old as Delp hit three three point field goals during the run. Beloit, which was led in scoring by Nick Hendry with 16 points, eventually trimmed the lead to four (33-29) at halftime as Matt Fieck scored at the 1:22 mark. In the second half the Vikings came out with a 12-2 run to go up by 14 points (45-31) with 16:29 remaining in the game after Pat Brusveen buried a three point field goal to end the run.

Augustana shot .692 (9-13) from three point range as Delp hit four of five, Brusveen three of five and Nate Swetalla two of three. Drew Wessels led the team with six assists and four steals.

Besides Hendry’s 16 points, Fieck and Andy Horton each had 13 for Beloit.
