Joey Breslin gave F&M fits in the early going netting Washington’s first 13 points, which included a string of three three-pointers in as many possessions. Early foul trouble limited his action the rest of the way. Breslin ultimately failed out late in the second half, but not before scoring 26 points and collecting six rebounds.
The Shoremen led 15-14 with 12:15 left in the game, but an Outerbridge trey with 11:39 left gave the Diplomats a two point lead that was not to be surrendered the rest of the way. The three sparked a 14-2 Diplomat run during which Outerbidge accounted for 10 points. He finished the first half with 19 points having hit 4-for-4 from the floor and 9-for-9 at the line. Two of the field goals were from three-point range. He added four steals and a pair of dimes before heading to the locker room break with his team holding a 45-33 lead.
Washington did not threaten the rest of the way.
In addition to Outerbridge’s effort, three Diplomats scored in double figures. Derek Hines had 12 points and matched Breslin’s six rebounds for a game-high. Brandon Yost and Andrew McCaffrey each scored 10 points. Yost had four rebounds and a pair of blocks and steals. McCaffrey was one of three F&M players with four assists. Outebridge and Pat Przybylowski were the others.
The Diplomats return to action on Wednesday at McDaniel in need of a win to keep playoff aspirations alive.
