SEGUIN, Texas — The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs closed out a 71-65 American Southwest Conference win over Schreiner with a 20-5 run over the game’s final 7 minutes, 27 seconds.

TLU (2-5, 2-2 ASC) trailed by nine after a Richard Moore jumper gave Schreiner a 60-51 edge. But TLU held the Mountaineers scoreless over the next six minutes and scored the game’s next 14 points.

J.C. Herebia, Kadin Kirk, Garrett Allen, Michael Hill, Nate Walton and Tyler Wanek all scored for TLU in the decisive run.

Hill punctuated the rally with a steal and two-handed dunk that TLU a 69-63 lead with 1:38 to play.

Schreiner fell to 1-6 overall and to 1-3 in the ASC with the loss.

TLU made 58.1 percent of its shots in the second half and used a 3-2 zone down the stretch to hold down the Moutaineers.

Walton led TLU with 17 points. The sophomore guard added seven rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Herebia added 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting. Kirk, TLU’s team captain, came off the bench to contribute nine points and nine rebounds.

TLU out-rebounded Schreiner 44-29. TLU had nearly as many offensive rebounds (22) as Schreiner had total rebounds (29). Six of Kirk’s nine rebounds were on the offensive glass.

Schreiner had four players in double figures. Jonathan Young scored 17 points. Kevin Deans and Richard Moore added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

TLU doesn’t play again until Saturday, Dec. 16 when the team travels to Pineville, La., for a 7:30 p.m. tip with Louisiana College.
