Emory 82, Maryville (Tenn.) 81

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — DePauw improved to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference after a 73-67 win over visiting Centre. The Colonels dropped to 4-3 overall and 0-1 in the SCAC.


The Colonels jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, but DePauw scored 11 straight with Stephen Schott scoring the Tigers' first nine of the game. DePauw led by as many as 12 in the first half after Austin Brown's three-pointer with 3:20 remaining and took a 41-33 edge into the intermission.

The Tigers extended the lead to as many as 16 on a couple of occasions with the last coming on Schott's two free throws with 5:25 left which made it 66-50. Centre scored the next 11 and Matt Jacobson capped the run with a three-pointer with 2:50 remaining that made it 66-61.

The Colonels closed to within four at 71-67 on T.C. Thomason's three with four seconds left, but Reid Sakel caught the ensuing inbounds pass from Matt McDonald at halfcourt and coasted in for the layup.

Schott led the Tigers with 25 points, while Brown added 11 and Sakel scored 10. Matt Nestheide paced the Colonels with 15 followed by Thomason with 14 and John Patterson with 13. Each team grabbed 23 rebounds with Mike Moore and Schott each hauling down five for DePauw and Patterson totaling six for Centre. Moore dished out a game-high seven assists and totaled four steals in the win.

Each team shot 54 percent from the floor, but DePauw hit 6-of-13 three-pointers to Centre's 2-of-12.

DePauw travels to Maryville (Mo.) on Friday, December 8, while Centre visits Thomas More on December 18.
