SALISBURY, Md. — Salisbury University and Goucher College came into Wednesday night's Capital Athletic Conference men's basketball contest with one thing in mind, win. Both teams entered the game with five-game losing streaks and for the Sea Gulls the streak ended with an 80-65 victory over the Gophers before 444 at the Maggs Center.

Salisbury (10-9, 5-5 CAC) jumped out quickly on Goucher (6-13, 3-8 CAC) with a 28-4 lead seven minutes into the game. SU senior guard Segun Odumeru scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half where the Sea Gulls led 47-26 at the break. Odumeru finished the game with six assists, five rebounds, three blocks and two steals in 30 minutes of work.

In the second half, SU stretched its lead to as large as 32 points, 65-33 midway through the second half, as Odumeru's fast break lay-up ended a 13-0 run by the Sea Gulls in a five-minute stretch.

Goucher leading point scorer Jaime Russo finished the game with only one point as he was marked closely all night by SU guard Gary Ward (nine points). Russo entered the game fourth in the conference in scoring, with an average of 18.8 points per game.

SU senior guard Ray Williams, the leading point scorer in the CAC, finished the game with 11 points which is half of his average. The Sea Gulls had four players end the night in double-figures; Odumeru, Williams, Frank Gerald (13 points, seven rebounds) and Devin Jones (16 points). Sophomore Ozi Menakaya grabbed 10 rebounds in 20 minutes of work.

The Sea Gulls shot well from the floor the entire game (52 percent) and out rebounded the Gophers 45-26, 35 boards came on the defensive end of the court.

Salisbury swept the regular-season series with Goucher as the Sea Gulls won 73-67 on December 6, 2006. This is the fourth straight victory for the Sea Gulls over the Gophers.

The Sea Gulls will welcome back their alumni this Saturday, February 3, with a primetime game with Gallaudet University at 7:30 p.m.
