Led by the trifecta of Lynn Bright’s (26 points and 16 rebounds), Adam Nicholson scoring 12 points and Bruce Zamuel pouring in 11 points, GC scored 40 second half points. Bright was 8-14 from the field and 10-15 from the charity stripe.
Over the first 7:16 of the second half, The Pride outscored Fisk 19-10, led by Bright who scored eight points in that span.
Trailing 48-33, the Bulldogs answered with a 16-0 run over the next 3:29 to take a 49-48 lead following a three pointer by Marcus Patton, taking its first lead since the 17:48 mark of the first half. Digging back into the game with tenacious defense, Fisk also connected on three 3-pointers, with Deitrick Mitchell scoring five during the run.
Over the remaining 7:23 of the game, the two teams would tie each other twice, the last with a 59-59 score following a layup by the Bulldogs’ Marcus Patton. The Pride turned up its defensive pressure, taking the lead for good on a layup by Bright, connecting on all six free throw attempts to close out the game.
The Pride pulled away early in the first half with a 9-0 run which spanned 2:24, connecting on three layups, including a dunk by Lynn Bright, giving GC an 11-4 advantage. Trading baskets with the Bulldogs, over the next three minutes, GC extended its lead to 23-10 by the 4:42 mark of the first half, its largest of the game. Fisk closed with a flurry of layups, as well as connecting on seven free throws, down the stretch to close the Pride lead to 29-23 at the half.
Bright led GC with nine points and nine rebounds at the break, while shooting 33.3% (10-of-33) as a team from the field. Defensively, The Pride held Fisk to 28.6% shooting (8-of-28), including 0-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Marcus Patton II had 18 points and Michael Glaze added 13 for Fisk (1-8). Jonathan Pillow grabbed 13 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
