R-MC (5-2) also got 14 points from Marta Merkel and Amanda Hiltunen in the win. R-MC forced 35 RPI turnovers and connected on 24-of-33 attempts from the charity stripe to pick up its fifth win of the season.
RPI (3-4) was led by Tory Lyons who joined Riesbeck with 15 points on the afternoon. Destany Eagles and Tiffany Coleman had 14 and 11 points, respectively for the Red.
RPI jumped out to a 12 point lead in the first-half of play at 35-23 when Eagles connected on a three-pointer with 6:23 left.
The Yellow Jackets cut the deficit to four with a 12-4 run to close out the half. Jess Shifflett spearheaded the run by scoring six of those points to make the score 39-35 at the intermission.
R-MC chipped away and took the lead for good on a three-pointer by Hiltunen that made the score 47-45 with 12:16 left in the game.
Randolph-Macon extended its lead to 11 points with 7:38 remaining when Riesbeck connected on one-of-two free-throws.
RPI stayed close and shaved the lead down to one point with 22 seconds left in the game when Eagles scored on a lay up.
Hiltunen was fouled on the ensuing possession and connected on one free-throw to up the R-MC lead to two points.
RPI had a shot to tie the game on its next possession but Kristi Baranowski’s lay up fell short and the rebound was corralled by Molly Ariail to preserve the Yellow Jacket win.
R-MC will return to action on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Pacific Time when it takes on Vanguard University which is the nation’s top ranked NAIA team and host of the Surf City Classic.
