Amy Childs (Covington, VA/Alleghany) recorded a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 rebounds to lead Bridgewater. Katy Herr Lovell (Staunton, VA/Robert E. Lee) added 12 points and seven rebounds while Shannon Scales (Chesterfield, VA/Commonwealth Christian) notched a game-high 15 points for the Eagles.
The Eagles started quickly building a ten point lead through the first eight minutes of the game behind the scoring of Childs and Herr Lovell. Bridgewater’s advantage grew to 13 before Guilford cut the lead to eight with 4:13 left in the first half. However the Quakers would get no closer as Bridgewater went on a 11-4 run to end the first half with a 36-21 lead. Bridgewater pushed its lead to 25 with 11:14 left in the second half and cruised to a 61-41 final. The Eagles shot 41 percent from the field and 63 percent from the free throw line.
Freshman Ann Suefer (Williamstown, W.Va./Williamstown) led Guilford’s scoring with eight points. Mariah Neville (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) team-best eight rebounds. The Quakers suffered through a tough shooting night hitting on only 27 percent shooting from the floor and 41 percent from the free-throw line.
The Quakers host ODAC-rival Eastern Mennonite Saturday (2/3) at 4:00 p.m. in the Ragan-Brown Field House. The Eagles visit Emory & Henry Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
