Seufer finished with a game-high 28 points thanks to her eight trifectas that broke Arden Miller’s mark of seven set at Washington and Lee Jan. 15, 2000. She had four triples and 12 points by halftime, which helped the Quakers open a 48-20 edge. Guilford (1-0) made eight of their school-record 13 three-pointers in the first half and converted 15 Bennett turnovers into 22 first-half points.
The Quakers placed five students in double figures en route to their sixth-highest scoring game in school history. Freshman Alexa Willams (Round Hill, Va./Loudoun Valley) posted a double-double in her college debut with 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Rookie Jasmine Wood (Dunwoody, Ga./Dunwoody) chipped in 16 points on seven-of-eight field-goal shooting plus seven rebounds. Another freshman, Nisha Brooks (Liberty N.C./E. Randolph), added 13 points and eight boards off the bench and Tracey Croner (Rockwell, N.C./E. Rowan) finished with 12 points. Sophomore guard Jessica Casto (Cross Lanes, W.Va./Nitro) matched the second-highest assist total in school history with 11 helpers and added seven points and seven rebounds.
Bennett freshman Jessica Harrison (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Belles (0-1) with 21 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Preseason All-American Tarra Richardson (Ft. Worth, Texas/Brewer) led three McMurry (1-0) students in double-figure scoring with 21 points and 11 rebounds, both game highs, in the opener. McMurry’s stifling second-half defense limited Oneonta State (0-1) to six-of-34 field-goal shooting in the second half after the Red Dragons shots just under 52 percent in the first period.
Oneonta held a 30-29 lead four minutes before halftime before McMurry closed the half on a 14-4 run that featured two Maigen Sawyer (Hamlin, Texas/Hamlin) three-pointers and five points by Symbri Tuttle (Arlington, Texas/Lamar). McMurry picked up where it left off in the second half and held Oneonta State without a field goal for the first 4:05 of the period and opening a 19-point lead.
Sawyer finished with 16 points for McMurry. Tuttle notched a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 10 assists.
Sophomore Christi Podgorski (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland) led the Red Dragons with 20 points, 16 of which came in the first half.
