MADISON, N.J. — A cold shooting day doomed Drew University men’s basketball as they fell to conference leaders Scranton, 55-34. The Ranger defense again proved stifling as they held Scranton 19 points below its season average, but Drew found the Scranton defense just as difficult. Scranton’s Darren Cannon led all scorers with 18 while Drew got nine from David Cramer. The Royals improve to 12-3, 3-1 in the Freedom while Drew falls to 5-7, 1-3.

Scranton opened up a decisive 31-13 lead by halftime as the Rangers could not get their shots to fall. Cannon was the main culprit for the Royals, hitting four threes and grabbing four rebounds. David Cramer gave the Rangers an early lead with the team’s first five points of the game, but Drew shot just 25% from the field in the first half.

The second period was better for the Rangers, but they were unable to mount the second half comeback that has been a staple of their play so far this season. Drew began the second half on with a 5-2 run that looked to be the beginning of a surge, but Cannon’s fifth triple of the game at the 14 minute mark bumped the lead to 18. The advantage remained between 16 and 23 from the rest of the game as Drew could get its shots to fall.

Cannon led the scoring with 18 on 6-8 from behind the arc and added eight rebounds. Tom Bicknell had 10 points and four boards. Damon DiLorenzo had another solid all-around game with five rebounds, two assists and three steals to go with four points.
