CHESTER, Pa. — Sophomore Kelley Guarrera scored a career-high 20 points, but it was not enough for Widener in a 71-57 loss to King’s at Schwartz Center.

King’s took charge with a 13-1 run in just over seven minutes for a 52-39 lead with 8:07 remaining. Kaitlyn Fiorino scored six points in that span, capping it on a 3-pointer.

The Lady Monarchs (5-3) outscored Widener, 40-25, in the second half by shooting 50 percent (14-of-28) from the floor. The home team, which led by as many as nine in the opening half, was held to just 29 percent (9-of-31) in that span.

Andrea Hochstuhl had 20 points and 13 rebounds, Jenna Palumbo scored 20 points with five 3-pointers and Fiorino netted 14 points for King’s. Hochstuhl shot 8-of-13 from the field, helping the Lady Monarchs hit 45 percent (25-of-56) overall and 8-of-21 from beyond the arc.

Guarrera shot 8-of-16 from the floor and bested her career-high of 15 points against Moravian on November 28. Beth Dessart Mager poured in 12 points and fellow sophomore Megan Sipple added 10 for Widener (3-4), which hit for just 34 percent (21-of-62) from the floor and was 9-of-19 from the line.

Guarrera and junior Quisha Dunston grabbed six rebounds apiece, helping Widener closed with a 40-36 edge.

Widener hits the road Friday to visit Salisbury, beginning at 6:00 pm.
