With the loss, the Devils dropped to 7-13 (2-8 Freedom Conference).
Scranton jumped out to an 18-4 lead in the first six minutes of the game behind six points from Mellody. After Scranton got the lead up to 24-8 with 10:21 left in the first half, the Devils cut the lead to 30-19 with 3:29 remaining in the half thanks to four points apiece from freshmen forwards Danielle Michlovsky (Wind Gap, PA/Bethlehem Catholic) and Courtney Young (Bayonne, NJ/Bayonne). The Devils couldn’t get the lead into single digits though, as Scranton took a 33-21 lead into the locker room.
The Royals came out aggressive in the second half, opening up a 19 point lead, 54-35, with 11:00 left in the game. The Devils chipped the lead down to 69-56 with 4:26 left behind nine points from sophomore guard Emily Cerankowski (Easton, PA/Notre Dame). However, the Royals made their free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Michlovsky finished with 16 points and seven rebounds off the bench while Cerankowski saw her string of four straight 20-point outings end as she scored 15 on the day. Senior guard Jessie Chalmers (Middletown, NJ/Middletown North) finished with 10 points. Senior center Tiffaney Williams (Scranton, PA/Scranton) had 14 points and nine rebounds for Scranton while senior guard Allison Matt (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic) had 14 points and six assists.
