FULTON, Mo. — The Westminster College women let a late lead slip away and fell to Principia College 74-70 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener for both teams Saturday.

Westminster (1-5, 0-1 SLIAC) had rallied back from a 45-39 halftime deficit to lead by five points in the final minutes, but could not hold the lead. Then the Blue Jays missed an opportunity to tie the game at 70 in the final 12 seconds, before Leslie Nichols hit two charity shots with 2.4 seconds left to seal the win for Principia (4-1, 1-0 SLIAC).

Mary Korte paced the Blue Jays with 17 points, and was joined in double figures by Brittney Scott 13, Markie England 11, and Heather Collums 10. Ashley Stanfill contributed nine points and a game-high nine rebounds. Christina Speer led Principia with a game-high 29 points and eight rebounds. Nicole Buchong finished with 11 points and Nichols added 10 points.
